Autocorrect quotes/apostrophes to curly and hyphens to en-dash

Trados Studio has a setting which allows users to choose to have their single and double quote marks become curly, and hyphens to become en-dashes, by default.

This would be very useful in Enterprise too. Barely any documents require straight quotes/apostrophes and short hyphens, so why is this the default?

It's very cumbersome to add curly apostrophes currently - the only way to do it is to manually click to insert an opening and closing single curly quote. N-dashes are better because Ctrl+Minus works.

  • I see this has been marked as delivered - could you provide more details please?

I understand that currently these marks have to be inserted via a shortcut or the ribbon, in pairs - which is different from the ask of autocorrecting to curled/long, as happens in Word etc.

Having to add in pairs is very cumbersome given that translators are now postediting rather than typing the content from scratch.

  • You can insert them from the ribbon, or, use the shortcut - Screenshot showing a ribbon interface with various symbols and a highlighted 'Insert characters' option with a tooltip showing the shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+4).
