Ability to pin the Search and Replace Dialog

Hi,

1.

I would really appreciate if I was able to pin the Search and Replace Dialog in Studio, or at least keep it over any other window. Ideally, floatting and pinable at the same time.

I often use that dialog, and it happens I forget to close it; and I have then to find it under other Studio and Non-Studio Windows, and it's often a mess. It would be a major ergonomic improvement and a time saving if I (we) add the option to have it always visible.

2.

By the way, it would be great to have a default button on that dialog, as is the case in most software in the Windows environment. E.g., automatically "clicking" the Search Next command when hitting the Enter Key afer having entered a word to be searched, or closing the dialog when hitting the Escape key.

Thanks in advanceScreenshot of Trados Studio's Search and Replace Dialog with a red arrow pointing to the top right corner indicating the need for a pin feature, and another arrow pointing to the 'Search Next' button suggesting a default button feature.

  • I have been annoyed for many years that this search dialogue box does not remain in the foreground. And the fact that Studio wants to navigate to the first occurrence first to replace is also very impractical. However, this should also work without external tools like AutoKey.

What I also miss (but would be a separate feature): that you can also search for text in tags.

Just recently started with SDL Trados and find it very annoying that clicking in the Editor View the opened S&R Box disappears each time in the background. This is very annoying as the S&R-box must be reactivated again and again by pressing the appropriate button. I think this is unusual behaviour. In other CAT software the Search function stays always on top and only closes after closing the box manually. Please, can this be improved? Thanks

  • I agree with Philippe and a Find and Replace window would be great, I wanted to create a post about it, then searched and find Philippe's post here. Finding and grabbing Find and Replace window behind the other apps, just distracts our attention. A pin feature, as Philippe suggest would be great, or even without pin until user closed it by close button whenever he/she doesn't need it, like Adobe InDesign or MS Word software. Hope to see it soon!

  • I endorse Philippe's commonsense suggestion - thank you, Sir.  In general, if to proceed a program requires response to a dialog box, it is good programming practice to keep that box up front. I hope future releases, versions and patches will include this as an option, for flexibility.
