BACKGROUND: When translating data from content management systems (CMS), OASIS DITA XML topic files (.dita) can be opened and translated with Trados Studio. A big issue is that the related DITAMAP files (.ditamap) are not recognized by Trados Studio as translatable files, even if they are normal XML files and have translatable texts in them.

DIFFICULT TO WORKAROUND: As SDL Trados Studio 2011 or later versions does not anymore embed File Types in Trados translation packages, self made file type to solve this issues does not transfer into Trados translation package, but delivery must be handled manually outside the package to the translation vendor project manager.

IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION:

1. Add OASIS DITAMAP file type (.ditamap) to your standard File Type set, because it is standard to be used in all CMS environments.

2. To the Parcel rules of this this file type, in addition of the normal elements, add also the 'navtitle' attributes, which are translatable if exists in DITAMAPS.

RESULT: By these small and simple improvements SDL Trados Studio will cover and please majority of translating CMS customers, which there are increasing amount nowadays.
