Idea Delivered

Partially added in Studio 2017 SR1 CU8, see comment below. We can potentially enhance this in future to be less 'fiddly'.

Now enhanced with SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR1.

Improvement of behavior when adding comments with the track changes function turned on

When you change texts with the track changes function turned on,

1. Comments can not be added even if you put the cursor on the changed part.
(When the track changes is off, comment is added with highlights being added to the entire sentence.)

2. Comments can not be added if you select (invert) the deleted part and the added part at once, or sometimes the changed part ant the unchanged part at once.
(When the track changes is off, comment is added with highlights being added to the selected texts.)

In our case, when checkers check translated texts, they often want to add comments in particular to the changed parts.
It is inconvenient when the above behavior appears, because you have to pay attention to texts to select everytime you want to add comments.

It will be better if it behaves at least like when the track changes is turned off.

  • Hi   - actually this has been changed in Studio 2017 SR1 CU8 but it is a bit 'fiddly'. You can select the tracked change as a whole - e.g. a deleted word as a whole - and then the Add Comment button should appear. If you have a replacement (deleted tracked change, added tracked change adjacent to each other) then you need to select exactly one of the tracked changes as a whole (e.g. the deletion) - then the button will also appear. I agree this is not ideal and we an improve the behaviour, but just to let you know this is possible. Setting the status to "Delivered Partially" therefore.
