Issues when creating a multilingual project. Lock 100 % and context matches for FR

Dear community,

I was helping creating a multilingual project the other day, and I selected several target languages, such as ES, DA, FI and FR

Thing is, I wanted lock 100 % and context matches. So I went to All language Pairs>Batch Processing>Pre-translate files and selected it accordingly:

Screenshot of Trados Studio Ideas showing Batch Processing Settings with 'Lock 100% matches' and 'Lock context matches' options selected for all languages except French.

All the 100 % matches for all languages will be, then, locked if such settings are applied. However, this does not apply to FR, since, as you can see, this is still unlocked when all the remaining languages are fine:

Screenshot of Trados Studio Ideas with Batch Processing Settings for Pre-translate Files, highlighting that the 'Lock 100% matches' option is not applied to the French language pair.

I know there are several workarounds for this, such as modifying the template, using Toolkit, etc., however, I am working with other colleagues, and they have different settings, and I should like to know if this is maybe a bug, or if it is possible to look into this, since this error was already visible in SDL Trados Studio 2014.

It might be time to fix it.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Kind regards,

David

  • David, Individual language pair settings override global language settings. When you selected that all 100% matches are to be locked you did so in the All Language Pairs. However, to make sure that you can define exceptions (such as a language pair where you would like to have even the 100% matches reviewed) you can select different settings for each target language.

You have probably "Use different translation providers for this language pair" active for French.

A workaround is to set up your project with all TMs at the top level and no individual language settings. Once you are happy with your selection you can activate any individual settings for each language.

  • Yes, it would be an issue as far as I can see. In case you agree on this and you know where I should post it, please, let me know.

    Kind regards,

    David
