Now delivered with SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR1.

Replace the new alignment module with something that actually works

The new alignment module (introduce, I think with Studio 2011 or 2014) is a nightmare that most of the time wastes much more time than it saves. The old WinAlign, for the file types it supports, it still a much better choice.

SDL should replace completely (mind you: not "improve" or "change": the tool is way beyond salvaging) the new alignment module, either with an updated version of WinAlign, or with something else (I would suggest licensing software from AlignFactory, who seem much better at developing alignment tools than SDL.)

  • Hi Adrian, Terminotix's AlignFactory... or maybe a souped up version of their YouAlign. Mind you... I've never actually used AlignFactory (I would have to purchase it), but the "free" version (YouAlign), is awesome: it usually creates automatically aligned files without any hitch. When I have files that are in my opinion probably not suitable for automatic alignment, I end up using either LFAligner or the old WinAlign.
