Type assistant for Editor

As the title implies, in addition to translation-based AutoSuggest, Termbase, etc., I would much enjoy a non-translation-based TypeSuggest as it works in my WhatsApp application when I type messages.

  • Assisted typing would be very useful. I kinda of abuse MultiTerm for that but creating the entries is quite time consuming.

There's another way of doing this, other than using a third-party wordlist; Studio could simply collate such a list based on the TM you're using, rank them in order of frequency. It would be important to combine that with an ability for the end user to specify from how many letters on (e.g. Start suggesting at 3 letters) it starts kicking in because in different languages, starting too soon will get you lots of FP.

But the idea is really good.

  • Hi , I did not know about that software - thank you for the information. Maybe  can work to get this somehow in the SDL app store?

  • Hi Adrian,

For now, I use this software: www.sumitsoft.com/download.htm

According to their website, they have already done it for you:

_Typing Assistant is optimized to use in SDL Trados Studio and memoQ; it can work smoothly in those CAT programs._

I thought it would be beneficial for Trados to have its own TA functionality. But if nobody else thinks so, then ok, I am pretty happy with this 3rd-party application :)

  • Hi , I assume you are talking about the smartphone app WhatsApp. If that is what you are referring to, that is a feature of the smartphone, not the app. I have an Android, so I can't talk about iPhones, but on Android it is the Google Keyboard that does that - everywhere you type. On a smartphone you really need all the help you can get when typing because it is uncomfortable, but I am not sure if this would be needed or even useful on a PC? It seems like it would be easy to introduce errors which in translation are very important, but not in a chat app on a smartphone. What is your opinion on this and do you have an example of something similar on a computer?
