updating TM from inside the Editor for filtered segments only.

Screenshot of Trados Studio Ideas Editor interface showing a large file being edited with filters applied. Comments section visible with user scenario described. Translation results from Arabic to English displayed alongside segment ID numbers.

Please see the above scenario. That should be indeed a very very useful feature within the Editor itself, and not as part of a batch process on the project level.

  • I would really prefer to have it as a feature from within the editor, so simply select any segments and update the TM on the fly.

  • yes that is true Alessia, and that is why I suggested this. Thanks a lot for your input and suggestions.

  • I think this could be developed as an enhancement of the StudioViews app. Since it allows to export filtered segments, I think it could be not too difficult to add a function that allows to run batch task on selected or visible segments only.

  • Thanks a lot for your input Alessia, I know how to do that of course, but my idea was to do this as you go from within the editor, as sometimes you have a huge project and you want review segments done by multiple translators, so you proceed with filtering segment so and so to segment so and so and then update that part from the editor on the fly without having to change statuses! I actually suggested before to be able to create other custom statuses, other than the ones found by default, such as Segments translated by Alessia, Segments translated by Sameh status, and so on, but so far, I think it is still under community review!

  • I think you can do that from within the Editor in a certain way.

    1. Once the revision of the filtered segments is completed, select the filtered segments and change their status to a status that you are sure is not used within the file, e.g. Translation Approved or Translation Signed Off.

    2. From within the editor, select Home > Batch Tasks > Update Main Translation Memories

Trados Studio Editor interface showing the 'Batch Tasks' dropdown menu with 'Update Main Translation Memories' option highlighted.

3.In the wizard, make sure only the specific segment status is selected in the screen below:

Batch Processing Settings window with 'Translation Memory Updates' section, 'Overwrite existing translation units' and 'Translation Approved' status selected.

    4. Click on Finish.

In this way, only those segments will update the translation memory.
