So far most of the status bar space in Editor is unused. Here are some ideas to take advantage of that free space on the left hand side:
- Show the active Hunspell dictionary (file name): That’s a quick way to know if a new word can be added to that dictionary or if instead the user needs first to change the active dictionary.
Click that area to quickly open File > Options > Editor > Spelling > Custom Dictionaries in order to change the active Hunspell dictionary.
I spend a lot of time confirming the active spell dictionary, or correcting entries added to the wrong dictionary. I’d like to speed things up with this new feature.
- Show the setting Replace text as you type (for example, ON or OFF)
Double-click to toggle setting (or click to open File > Options > Editor > Autocorrect, or both click and double-click)
I have this setting disabled, but for new target languages it’s enabled by default and I might not notice it. I’d like a quick scan of the status bar to notice it.
- Show the setting Display results from the Fragment Matches window if the TM lookup returns no results
Double-click to toggle setting (or click to open File > Options > Editor > Fragment Matches Window, or both click and double-click)
- Show the setting Perform search if the TM lookup returns no results
Double-click to toggle setting (or click to open File > Options > Editor > Concordance Search Window, or both click and double-click)
- Show the font size used in Editor (for example, 16).
Click to increase the size. Right-click to decrease the size. Double-click to open File > Options > Editor > Font Adaptation
- Show the setting Perform lookup when active segment changes
Double-click to toggle setting (or click to open File > Options > Editor > Automation, or both click and double-click)
- Show the setting Enable Auto-propagation
Double-click to toggle this setting (or click to open File > Options > Editor > Auto-propagation, or both click and double-click)
- Show the setting Automatic check
Click to open File > Options > Editor > Automatic updates
When the user hovers the mouse over any of these areas, an explanatory tooltip will be shown. For example:
Replace text as you type
is enabled.
Double-click to toggle.
I know the double-click actions to toggle settings can disrupt inadvertently the workflow, which is why I’ve added the safer action to open the corresponding Options page.
