Real-life analysis in TMS

Hi all,

Recently, we had a workshop here in Leuven with our Dutch translation colleagues.

One of the points that struck us the most was how we are essentially duplicating a lot of analysis work:

  • TMS analyzes job and produces word count before job goes to customer Authorization stage
  • Language office downloads either XLIFF files or Studio package. They then analyze the file once more to benefit from their local TMs, which are more up to date with content that has been translated since the job was authorized by our customers in TMS. They claim this TM is mostly the same, with the same name, just with additional content from the daily work. Differences can be huge and very beneficial for their outsourced word count.
  • Language Office then create their own projects in Groupshare with this new leverage

So here’s my thought: why cannot we implement an additional step in TMS which would:

  • Re-analyze TMS jobs with the current leverage once a file is edited by translators from their Studio interface
  • Re-analyze TMS jobs with the current leverage once a file is downloaded from TMS as either XLIFF or Studio package

That way, leverage would be much improved but the LOs wouldn’t need to go through the trouble of re-applying TMs on their side. Obviously ideally we’d be able to see these word counts somewhere to create accurate POs, too – but mainly I’m concerned about the duplication of work that currently occurs.

Would greatly welcome your feedback.

Thanks

Tobias
