It’s possible to select an individual word when commenting using the inline commenting feature, but from a writer and SME perspective when you view the comment there is no markup or highlighting of what’s been commented on. To see where comments apply, when double-clicking on the T in the comments pane, you still have to do a lot of visual searching/processing to find the passage (word, phrase) in question because the whole paragraph is highlighted. Finest granularity is P/para level, in effect, and more verbose feedback is required for effective feedback.
For example, selecting just the word "are" in a paragraph and stating to change “are” to “is” when there is more than one instance of “is” in a para would need more description to describe the exact "is" that needs to be changed. Users presume since they are highlighting just the "are" when making the comment where they want it to be changed, it would be easy to go back and find it. Since the whole paragraph is highlighted when double-clicking the T to find where that particular comment is located, it is difficult to find which "are" needs to be changed. When you click on the T once, it does show you what text was originally highlighted, but in cases like this, that doesn't help the user.
