Content importer should save source folder and target folder settings

In Content Importer - Translation (Tridion docs 15.1.1) source folder C:\Import\In and target folder C:\Import\Out needs to be set. But after a restart the folders have to be browsed for again, every time. The previously done settings are greyed out and correct but still needs to be redone. Why can’t it remember (cache) the previous settings when it’s always the same? I mean this setting is done once and then they last a lifetime... It would save time but also be a work environment improvement since every computer mouse movement and click puts loads on hands and arms.

  • Hello  ,
First of all, thank you for your idea.

Let me bring a bit of clarity on how folder selection is currently working for Content Importer.
Screenshot of the 'Content Importer' interface showing 'Translation Import' with fields for 'Import name', 'Source folder' set to 'C:Importin', and 'Target folder' set to 'C:Importout'. A 'Convert and import' button is visible at the bottom.
What you see under input control for Folder selection is just an example placeholder. It is not a configured value.
Currently, we preserve the last selected location for a Folder selection dialog (you can see it when you are making the next selection).
For example, for the Source folder, you selected "C:\Import\in". Once you will start selecting the Target folder location it will be opened inside "C:\Import\in" as the starting point of selection.
Assuming you will select the Target folder as "C:\Import\out". We will preserve this value, the next time you open a folder selection dialog in Content Importer, either Translation import type or other like Standard, your starting location will be "C:\Import\out". This will also be preserved after you close your app.
So in case locations are close to each other it is easy to navigate and choose the correct one.

Regarding the proposition of the improvement.
    What are your thoughts/preferences?
Should this setting be saved per user account?
Do you think we need to have a setting per import type?
Like, separate for Standard, Without conversion, Translation?
    Thank you
