Display in Oxygen the variable values corresponding to the version of the variables file selected in Publication Manager

The Authoring tab in Oxygen always displays the variable values from the latest version of a variables file, even if the writer has selected an earlier version of the variables file in Publication Manager. This configuration is confusing to writers, who must use an earlier version of a variables file while editing content in Oxygen.

It would be very helpful if the variable files were treated like topic files so that Oxygen displays the variable values from the version of the variables file selected in Publication Manager, and not automatically display the variable values from the latest version of the variables file.

  • Thanks Varun. The writers, who must use an earlier version of the variables file, must use a different file containing the earlier values of the variables.

  • Thanks Christina for posting the idea. May I please ask how are you working around this situation currently? It would be interesting to see more feedback from the community.

  • Hmmm... I hadn't noticed that before. As a test, I just tried doing the same thing with conrefs -- and I got the same result. My baseline contains version 1 of the conref source file, but Oxygen shows values from version 2 of the file.

The Oxygen connector is already checking the baseline, I think, so that it can build the list of variable files in the "Add Variable" dialog. So the question is: Can the connector perform an additional check to sync the version of the variable and conref source files?
