Inserting cross references

When inserting a cross-reference you need to select an object from the repository. This has two disadvantages:
1. it does not work smoothly because you have to search for the target.
2. Broken links can occur because the target does not have to be part of the publication/baseline.

Idea:
When you want to insert an xref, display the targets in the publication / ditamap. This works faster and ensures that the xrefs are also implicitly validated.

  • We understand that, of course!
    Thanks for your feedback.

  • It does make total sense, Roy! But we have our hands very full leading up to the 15 release next year, so I just want to set expectation that we may not be able to change this functionality in the client tools by then. (The key focuses for 15 are security with the new modern authentication capabilities, lots of backend work on revamping the API, thus also more secure, faster to develop against in the future, etc, and also the first version of the new web client, Organize Space. Plus some really nice usability improvements in Draft Space. Look for a webinar in October with more info.)

  • Thanks for your reply Joe, we already use the SP3 clients, perhaps this improvement can be included in the next release.
This is a function that is used by many authors, and therefore also adds a lot of user convenience.
It is also effective to improve the quality of the documentation. There is less chance of a faulty non-resolvable link.

  • Thanks Roy, it makes sense and we did this in Draft Space already, I think in Tridion Docs 14 SP3 if I remember rightly. If you have the chance, you could have a look at how it works there.

For other tooling, we are now pretty much all out on the modernization and security themes that we've talked about in recent roadmap presentations, so it could take quite a while. But I agree it makes sense.
