From Docs User Group: Something as simple as persisting the selection to show optional fields would be a good first step. For those who need them, the selection would stay/remain available across sessions. For those who don't use them, it would not apply/not be viewed. Could this be moved to a user profile/configuration setting?

Yes please. The "optional" fields are usually information you need to see as an admin at least.

For the Valmet installation, we would be glad to enforce it across our entire system, even though there are multiple user groups. Seeing a few more fields is a very minor inconvenience if one is not concerned with them, but when people create objects without the needed properties it causes a lot of trouble.

I'd like to answer your questions as well:

• Should it be a system-wide setting or a per-user setting?
  • We'd prefer a per-user setting, because of the different user groups we have
• What default would you expect, I assume "Show Optional fields" = true
  • That would be our preference
• How often from your experience might people change this setting or will it be set once and forever?
  • If it's turned on as a standard, some users will turn it off. Same today: Many users turn it on for each session.
    That's why we prefer a per-user setting

  • For us it would be okay that is is once, forever as we always need access to these properties when using the property view.
