Accepted, Not Yet Planned

Update: Though this is a great idea, this specific request is currently not planned based on our program planning and prioritization of all Tridion Sites ideas for early 2018. We may revisit this and other great ideas based on more information and additional votes.

Add comments/instructions to items in the content explorer

It would be very useful to be able to attach instructions and comments to items (components, pages, structure groups, bundles etc.) in the content explorer.  This info would then be visible via the item's right-click context menu, or perhaps even as a tooltip when hovering over the item.

This feature could be used to give instructions, tips and reminders to content managers related to each item.  It might also be used for commenting. Some examples:

- "This component is meant to do X on page Y."

- "This page is optional. If you use it, please make sure you also do X and Y."

- "This component is obsolete and pending deletion. It has been replaced by TCM:XYZ"

- "Remember to replace the placeholder phone number in this component with a real one."

...and so forth.

Even a short plain text field would suffice for this purpose, although links could also be useful (for example a link to some relevant materials).

Parents
  • Some of what you suggest may be possible already. Even something as simple as a plani text field on every component titled "Stuff about this component" (or rather this instance of the component) - and then for specific fields in schemas you can use the custom link to your own {confluence} info repo do describe field usage etc.
