Update: Though this is a great idea, this specific request is currently not planned based on our program planning and prioritization of all Tridion Sites ideas for early 2018. We may revisit this and other great ideas based on more information and additional votes.

Customizable color picker

For a client, there was a request for customizing the color picker for RTF fields. They wanted other/extra presets to add some often used colors from their Style Guide as buttons. This saves the Content Manager a lot of work and prevents them from choosing the wrong color (he/she has to remember the exact hex codes).

Proposal: split the color picker dialog in two render modes (foreground and background color). Make a config file for both render modes. It should contain color presets with button text and color code. And document it as a customizable GUI extension point.

Hi Alvin,

Sure, you can create a custom color picker, like mentioned in the article. Downside is that you have two color pickers (customURL vs ribbon-bar version) and that you have to include the custom url for every RTF field in each schema.

Use case here is to get often-used colors from the clients' Style Guide into the color picker for all RTF fields.

I created a custom color picker using a Custom Url in this example: www.tridiondeveloper.com/sdl-tridion-custom-url-color-picker.

In terms of productizing such a feature, Bart Koopman (former member) and I briefly chatted about using something like this in the color configuration options in the Digital Experience Accelerator (DXA), SDL Web's reference implementation. But it might not make it directly into the product soon especially since _how_ the colors are used are very implementation specific.
