In case you missed it from the Machine Translation blog, ETS version 8.3 has been released and is now available to all customers.
ETS 8.3 is introducing 3 major new features:
- Windows Support for NMT for greater deployment flexibility
- Neural Language Pairs can now be installed on Windows Operating system.
- Both CPU Optimized for Quality and CPU Optimized for Speed modes are supported. GPU is planned to be supported at a later stage.
- 64bit Windows operating systems supported are: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016 and now Windows Server 2019.
- Enhanced PDF support for a better user experience
- ETS includes a new PDF conversion library that is producing better results with format preservation when translating pdf documents.
- PDF translation default output is now set to Microsoft Word (docx): end-users can edit the translated document and perform adjustments and modifications if needed.
- Scanned PDF translation has also been improved and the conversion will now try to keep the formatting preserved
- New Reporting API for a better control and monitor of MT usage
- The new API allows to retrieve statistics from all translations performed with ETS, including the Quick Translate usage.
- Customers now have the ability to better monitor the system usage by creating detailed reports on how ETS is used. They would be able to identify if Processing Units should be allocated differently or if more PUs should be acquired to handle their growing volume.
In addition, we have enhanced our Hardware Optimization, allowing 1 Processing Unit to reach 2000 words per minute with 4 CPU cores in CPU Optimized for Quality mode (this represent an impressive 140% improvement vs ETS 8.2).
Multiple additional enhancements have been introduced in ETS 8.3, including:
- The myhosts.json file can now be downloaded from the ETS Web UI, by clicking on "Download Entitlements Profile" in the "Entitlements" tab in "Manage" / "Deployment".
- Docker support has been improved and the ETS documentation now includes guidelines to create Docker images for ETS and start ETS in container-mode.
- It is now possible to select the operating mode when a Neural translation engine is created in the Web UI : Auto-detect (default), CPU Optimized for Quality, CPU Optimized for Speed.
- Unknown Words and Transliteration are only supported by SMT Language Pairs. If no SMT pair is running on the ETS instance, they are not displayed anymore in Quick Translation options.
- The Quick Translate page supports cancellation and deletion of translated files.
- It is now possible to clear the source and target text boxes in Quick Translate by clicking on the cross appearing in the top right corner of the source text box.
- Added support for OpenLDAP
- Revamped the LDAP configuration page with a simpler workflow and flow chart of operation.
- Added a configurable Login Agreement page that can be enabled by Admins to require user acceptance for new users.
