Trados Business Manager – End of Life Announcement

Trados Business Manager (TBM) has reached end of life. Following the discontinuation of TBM sales on 31 October 2023, all maintenance and support services will conclude on 31 October 2024.
What Does This Mean for TBM Users?

  • End of Services: RWS will no longer provide any services related to the installation or updating of TBM.
  • Existing Installations: TBM will remain functional where already installed, but the RWS support team will not offer assistance in troubleshooting issues, addressing reported problems, or providing further development for TBM.
  • Documentation: The TBM documentation has been removed from docs.rws.com.
  • Community Support: The community forum for TBM will remain accessible in a read-only format for users to reference if needed.

Very disappointed

I truly regret to read that development of the standalone app has been discontinued and that the product now only exists as a studio app. As far as I can see, this is just a very low way of getting former baccs users attached to Studio. This is reason for me to discontinue using this excellent invoicing software and move to another solution. Very unhappy that I spent so much time learning to use the baccs.

  • Hello

I can understand where you're coming from, but your conclusion around why we did this is completely wrong.  If we look at BaccS there were a few things that are worth noting:

    1. There were not a lot of users
    2. The features in the software were amazing, but already far more than your average translator would make use of
    3. The features in the software were already moving more towards the needs of a small company outsourcing work

So with this in mind we have focused on the following with the main application:

    1. Enhancing the main application as a server solution integrating with our own server solutions,
    2. Improving the workflows and features in the software specifically for companies and not individual translators
    3. providing customer and vendor portals

In order to support our translators more, and to try and encourage more translators to use this software in an easier way we have overhauled the free plugin and added a lot of features to make it more useful for a translator.  We are still adding features to try and make sure we achieve this aim as you can see if you look at the updates here.

We have added features to the plugin to support the import of analysis files from other tools too, so not just Studio, and we are completely open to reviewing any request to enhance the plugin further if there are good reasons to do so.

    Regards

    Paul.

  • Hi Paul,

I'm sure it's all been well thought out, but at the end of the day, an invoicing tool that requires me to open Studio first to access it is just not an option. This is not 'supporting translators more', but less. As I said, very disappointing, and a huge waste of the time it took me to learn and customise BaccS.

    Regards,

    Olly
