Import of customer Excel file worked, but contacts are not imported properly

I migrated customer data from an old customer management tool to TBM via an Ecxel list. The structure of the Excel list was exactly like the structure of a TBM export XLS file. The TBM import file was processed without error messages, and customers were added properly.

But the contacts were not assigned to the customers but were instead added as additional customers (with names, notes, phone numbers etc. all in wrong columns), it seems as if the import algorithm did not detect the beginning of a new section. After having deleted the wrong entries in TBM I have tried to import the contacts list separately. But again, all entries were imported, but appear empty in TBM. As customers and contacts are matched via the field "customer name" I double-checked that the spelling of the customer name is exactly the same, but still: all I get are empty entries.

What am I doing wrong? How can I import contacts so that they are correctly assigned to the customers?

  • Hello, Andreas,

Can't agree with you. However, I understand that it could be not easy to follow the structure of Excel file. So, I'm attaching a file for importing a new customer with 1 contact. There are few rules to make it working correctly:

    1. Id of customer should be empty.

    2. Id of contact should be empty.

    3. Client column of a contact should have the same value as the name of a customer.

    4. Before contacts table, there is a row (grey background) with Contacts caption and, which is more important, EmployeeCollection_NestedTable value:

Excel spreadsheet with a table titled 'Clients' showing an entry for 'Cap1' with various details including 'Name', 'Short name', and 'Client code'.

So, if you import attached file, you will see that TBM will create Cap1 cusotmer with 1 contact.
