As I understand it correctly, you want to translate the comments in the JS file and not the code, right? Why not using this very simple pattern?

well, I want to exclude (defined as inline tag in a file type) anything before the comment so that only the comment is transferred to DeepL (or SDL Machine Translation). Or in other words: I want to see the complete source segment and I want to see the complete target segment in the editor - with only the not blocked content being transferred to DeepL for translation.

I'm sorry, but I believe I'm missing something here because I cannot get this effect when I add your pattern as inline tags?

Maybe the right side of the screen shot adds more context for you. I defined this as the Document structure not the Inline tags.

Yes, that's a good way to extract just the comments - but it doesn't solve my problem because I need to see the _complete_ lines including the code in both source and target segments. If I don't see the code itself there is no context for me to translate the comment or validate an MT...

So I'm still looking for a way to construct an inline tag pair ... :-( but will keep your solution in mind for similar tasks!

That might be difficult to achieve and maybe others can help. You will face the following challenges:

• The JS code may contain a lot of programming characters like : that will unnecessarily insert line breaks.
• It is possible to develop with no line breaks, so JS files can have its whole code in one single line
• The one I’m facing in my short test is that fact that Studio complains that the Inline tag rule I created matches the start line attribute

So the Inline tag pair you are looking for must start with ^ but and end with //, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

Yes, I guess it's really not possible at all.

Possible yes, maybe not using regex configurations, but by implementing a filter using the SDK.
