Error messages and how to fix them

I have two error messages. One says in relation to the TM I added "an element with the same key was already added" (which is not true). The other error message says

"Error when saving the target content. Access to the access route is denied." Can you please help? Thank you!

  • ,

Please tell us when this/these errors occur and post the full error stacks as this may help us

Error message dialog box with an 'X' icon, instructing to click on the icon, save the XML file to desktop, and add file to the thread.

Normally the first error would be normally be associated with the TermBase and not Translation memory.

Try removing the TermBase from the project and reorganising this. It maybe be necessary if this doesn't work, to export the Termbase and create a new one.

We would need to see the second error's details to try and determine the cause.

  • Dear Steven, thank you so much for replying. I don't have a termbase attached to this project at all. I now just have one error message which means I am currently unable to save any translations I do in Trados. Extremely frustrating. I'm attaching the xml file.

  • Hello ,

The issue here is most likely to be the synchronization with OneDrive that is 'hanging' on to the files and has been raised a few times before.

Try deactivation one drive whilst working in Studio and ensuring the project is created locally.

These threads discuss this in more detail and with relevant links-

  • Hi Steven, I see, thank you very much for your response. I'll read the other threads and try to deactivate One Drive then. I'm very grateful for your help. Best wishes, Mhairi.

  • I've just realised that one of the main problems I'm having here is that I am working from home, and all the main SDL Project files must be on my computer in my office at work. So I can't rename any of the .xml files because they're not on my home computer!  I've asked for a VPN connection from work to access them and see if that works. Deactivating the One Drive back up for documents didn't work either. Anyway, I'll keep trying...

  • Hello ,

Thanks for the update as this is important.

If you dont have direct access to the files and are accessing the desktop remotely, then I can indeed envisage a lot of issue arising- not least what is happening now.

Once you have the correct permissions from the organisation (VPN etc) then accessing the files shouldn't be a problem.

  • Hi Steven, you're welcome, thank you for continuing to respond. Actually I've checked and my translated files are saved locally, not on a remote desktop, and not even on One Drive either. However, with regards to the .xml files, I can't find any with the names specified in the thread you sent me, and hardly any .xml files at all in fact. Which is why I suspect when you download Trados onto your computer the .xml files are probably kept on that initial computer, then when you use Trados on a second device (like in my case and this probably is the case for many others due to the pandemic) the main SDL programme files are not on your second device. Would I be correct in assuming that? If so I'm not sure how to gain access to my work computer since we're not allowed to travel there at the moment due to the mobility restructions caused by the pandemic. They have given me access to a VPN in the end, but I'm not sure this is going to help me.
