When I receive an exported memoQ biligual rtf, I have to created a csv in which I cut and paste the 2 columns. I works , but I have to cut and paste back and restore some formatting lost.
Is there a way to import the rtf in Trados studio 2021 and save it or export it, withou 2 additionnal steps?

Hello Paul, what is the file extension - .rtf? Did you open the files in Trados 2021? - it has an RTF file type, as well as a MemoQ file type (which handles *.mqxlf;*.mqxliff;*.mqxlz).

rtf (bilingual) is using the well know rich text format used by MS word and many other programs, but when it is exported as a bilingual (mostly in a 3 column format (first column is the line numbering, second column language ONE and third column language TWO), you cannot directly place it in Trados Studio.
If you open it (Translate a single document) in Trados Studio, only the first language column shows up in the Source.
On the other hand, the csv format which is used by MS Excel (If you set it up in a 2 column format (first column language ONE and second column language TWO)), is very convenient as when you open it (Translate a single document) in Trados Studio, both colums are correctly displayed in Source and Target).
I dream of having an option when using Translate a single document in Trados Studio, that would directly recognize the rft format ignore column one and have both columns Source and Target populated like when you reimport a Review file (which is a 4 column .doc format). Similarly, Save as will show a rtf (bilingual) option and the edited rtf is recreated with cut and paste and losing the formating that rtf format keep very well and handy.
May be someone knows a trick or a future option will make my dream comes true.
I dream of seeing the correct file format for the job. The RTF or DOCX review file is intended for review outside of a CAT. If you wish to use a CAT then ask for a proper bilingual file… in this case memoQ xliff.

Paul Patrunoit is also possible to create a custom file type meaning that, in theory, any type of file can be translated in Language Cloud. RWS Professional Services can also assist with custom file type configurations.
