I recently purchased a Trados Freelance licence, thinking I could use it fully through Trados Live. I am a Mac user and this is the most convenient way to use Trados. Now, I thought I could add any add-ons/plugins. However, there are only a few installed in Trados Live. These are: DeepL, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and AEM. Now these are all paying services. Is there a way to get the MyMemory and IATE installed on Trados Live? These are all available on free CAT tools. Why not paying Trados?
The cloud capabilities of Trados Studio are a completely different platform and different APIs to those available in the desktop tools. As the APIs required to work with the cloud become more developed, and as more developers wish to work with them, you'll see more add-ons become available.

Add-ons are quite essential tools in my opinion. Smartcat, Matecat and Memsource are free and are linked to MyMemory and others. If Trados Live doesn't offer the same features as free tools, why buy a Trados licence at all? Sorry for the rant, but I don't think it makes sense that a paid CAT doesn't have the same MT tools as free ones.
Well... you are paying for Trados Studio and it comes with cloud capabilities. You can use all of the available apps on the desktop and work between the cloud and the desktop as needed.
We don't intend to be a cloud only solution and are working to ensure improved synchronisation between the desktop and cloud and this gets better with every release. The APIs are new, the freel tools you mention have nowhere near as many apps available as Trados Studio, and over time we'll have these available in the cloud where needed too.
You use a MAC and that's essentially your real problem. If you are not prepared to use Windows and only want to work in a browser that has the add-ons you want today then don't rant... use a free tool!

It is 2022, using a mac is not a problem. Neither is using full functioning cloud systems. Both have been around since years and are now it. Not the future, just it. I am certainly not the only Mac user, who is annoyed at Trados for not having a mac version of its software to begin with. Yes, after using PCs for decades, I got a Mac which has its advantages. I certainly didn't use the word 'rant' for it to be misused, but I was being polite. All I am asking for is to have the most popular add-ons installed. That is all.

Fair enough, and we'd all like to see that. But they need to be developed first, and this means we also need to have an available API and developers willing to do it. So as I said in my first response:

I am using Trados on a Mac since many years and have never been annoyed at Trados not having a Mac version because there is no need for a native Mac version. Simply install Parallels or VMWare Fusion on your Mac and run the Trados SW in your Windows VM. Works like a charm and will you let benefit of all the plug-ins of Studio that are not yet available in the cloud version.
