I require a capability to translate, edit, and/or proof documents offline so as to accommodate linguists that do not use CAT tools. In previous conversations with Trados engineers, it was communicated to me that this was only possible by creating a customized workflow whereby several engineering tasks run back-to-back so as to provide linguists (assigned to those engineering roles) an option to 'replace file'. This precluded any quality assurance or control steps, language memory updating, etc. Furthermore, the customized workflow capability is an expensive add-on that I do not otherwise need so I am interested in confirming that it is absolutely required for offline translation work.
I did some testing myself and was able to successfully use the Standard Translation & Review workflow to run an offline translation from start to finish. I excluded the translation and review steps and relied instead on the engineering step (the same 'replace file' function) which seemed to work the same as the customized workflow mentioned above. See screenshot attached with the full workflow. Does this make sense?
It was less obvious how to use the standard bilingual engineering step for offline editing but it looks like it might be possible. Specifically, if I accept the bilingual engineering task and then click into the document then there is no replace file function. However, if I am in my inbox and don’t click on a specific project then there is a general replace file function available that allows me to then select the specific project. Following that process to its conclusion however did result in errors as in the two attached screenshots. (Inbox --> Active --> More Actions --> Replace Files (option only available if no task is selected) --> select project --> Upload files --> Matches Files with Tasks; this is where I ran into the errors). Any thoughts on how to resolve these issues?
Any other thoughts or ideas on how to support offline work would be most welcome.
