Difference between a termbase and an autosuggest dictionary?

Could you please tell me the difference between a Termbase and an Auto-suggest dictionary?

Parents
  • Termbases contain single words and expressions, so not whole segments (translation units). They are useful for storing product-specific, customer-specific, or organization-specific terms, which can't be found in standard dictionaries.

Termbases can be accessed from a CAT Tool (e.g. Trados Studio), and in this case, source sentences are automatically searched from relevant terminology in the background, so the correspondent target terms can be easily inserted in the translation. Termbases can be local (file-based), or server-based.

AutoSuggest dictionaries are created from translation memories of at least 10,000 translation units and are used for retrieving segment fragments. When using an AutoSuggest dictionary, segment fragments will be suggested while you are typing. However, AutoSuggest suggestions can come from different other sources (not only AutoSuggest Dictionaries). They can come from Translation Memories, Machine Translations, or termbases.
