Sdl. TranslationStudio |AlignmentEditorService’ could not start

Good afternoon/evening/morning,

One

Yesterday, I have had to do a system restore. The available system restore point was the last time that I installed Studio 2017 on 10 February. Because, if Trados gets reinstalled on the same computer, there is no need to deactivate the licence, I did not bother to deactivate. However, after reinstalling today, I was asked to my surprise to reactive anyway. I attempted to deactivate the active licence off line, but failed. I did get a deactivation authorisation, but could not figure out how to generate the code from my end. The help video was only for 2015 and not for 2017 and the presenter went extremely fast (for an old man like me). The images were blurry and he did not linger on any of them. At no point did a key appear for generating the deactivation code.

So, I resorted to using my extra licence. The result is that now it shows that I have two licences in use, whereas only one actually is.

Two

After activating by using the extra licence and choosing the languages, Studio refused to run. It aborted with an error message ‘Sdl. TranslationStudio |AlignmentEditorService’ could not start, even though it is a fresh installation and I did restart my system. I have ‘repaired’ the installation, but the problem persists.

I found a solution proposed by Paul to Chiara on 10/5/2016, but it did not solve the problem. I also uninstalled vcredist and allowed Studio setup to reinstall it. Also to no avail.

I lodged a case on support.xl8.one at 14:41 GMT+3, but other than an acknowledgement, I did not get a response.

I can't even work on my laptop, as both activations are now 'in use'. Any ideas, please?
