What is the difference between "SDL Trados Studio XXXX" and "SDL Trados Studio XXXX - Remove suite of products" under the control panel?

For Multiterm, there is Multiterm Convert, Core and Desktop, so I assume the one that says "Remove suite of products" removes all three.
However, for Trados Studio 2011/14/15/17, there is only Trados Studio 2011/14/15/17.
My only guess is "Remove suite of products" removes WorldServer Components also?

Also, I cannot think of a reason why you would want to uninstall one, but not the other.

  • Hi,
You are pretty much correct, most SDL products are a combination of smaller installers, these sub installers also register themselves in programs and features. Its possible to hide these sub components but if you do that then you cannot see each individual patch in case you wish to uninstall it.

So to make it more obvious which SDL Trados in the list to uninstall it was named ' - Remove suite of products'

The Trados package has dependencies like C++ runtimes, some MS office components if you need them, along with Trados 2007 tools as well as Worldserver tools and so on.

  • Hi David,

Thanks for the answer and that clears it up well.
Just my 2 cents, but I think the uninstallation user experience could be improved. I have seen many users get confused by the number of entries under programs and features.

As a proposal, I would suggest hiding all sub components and making one entry under programs and features.
To allow users to uninstall certain sub components, perhaps you could change "Uninstall" to "Uninstall/Change"?
Then when the user selects it, provide dialog so the user can uninstall everything or just select the components they want to change/uninstall.

    Thanks again,
    Jesse
