SDL Trados Studio 2014 to 2017

Question

Hi all, 
 Could anybody write me a detailed, step by step instruction on how to upgrade from version 2014 to 2017? The thing is that I would like to run both versions on the same laptop, using one or the other, at least for a short transition period until I get completely used to 2017. 
 When I go to my account, under Downloads I see SDL Trados Studio 2017, MulTiterm 2017... Shall I download these? 
 When I go to Licenses, it tells me I have one upgrade available.

The downloads are available for you to install, and if you want to run 2017 then of course you'll have to download them. You can install and run these alongside 2014 if you wish. 
 
When you click on upgrade available you will be asked to process your upgrade. The important thing to remember is that when you do this you should not return the licence for 2014 in the product. So do not deactivate your 2014 licence. When you complete your 2014 upgrade in your account you will no longer have access to the old 2014 licence but as long as it's running on your computer you can use it. 
 
The new licence you get is for 2017 only.

Hi Daniela, 
 
If you ALWAYS wish to be able to keep 2014 even if you move computers, reinstall your operating system etc. then the only way to do this is to purchase an additional licence, or rather a new licence for 2017. Then the licence code for 2014 will remain available to you. 
 
If you upgrade then this is a cheaper option as you are trading in your 2014 for a 2017 licence. So once you deactivate the product in the software itself you won't be able to reactivate it as the old licence code won't work anymore. 
 
So, the idea we discussed here is that you just leave 2014 installed and activated and process your upgrade to 2017 in your account. This gives you a completely new and independent installer, and a new licence code for that installer. 2017 will be your new product but you'll still have 2014 working until you reinstall or just lose the ability to run 2014 anymore.
