Trados 2014 does not recognize the project

For the last two days, I have been working on a huge document (7000 words) using Trados 2014. I have shut down my computer yesterday, opened it today and wanted to finish my work (deadline is tomorrow) but COULDN'T because Trados decided to reinstall itself and after that refused to recognise the work previously done (it claims it can not recognise the file format).

It is not the first time this bloody programme does it, and it usually happens with the files of about similar length. I have two questions. 1) how can I recover the work that has been done? 2) how can I prevent it from doing this again (it is, of course, possible to switch to a different TM software, but this is more of a last resort).

    What do you mean with "does not recognize the format"? What kind of file are you trying to open?
    Please do yourself and us a favor and describe your steps after having restarted the PC exactly and really step by step.

     

    BTW, there is no such software like "Trados 2014", it is "SDL Trados Studio 2014". And as far as I can remember Studio did never reinstall itself without giving the user a possibility to accept any planned upgrade. So could you please also describe, what do you mean with "reinstall"? What happened, that you suppose the program has been reinstalled?

    Hi ,

    The problem you are describing sounds very much to me like a problem linked to your security software. Sometimes, if the security software does not recognise Studio as a trusted software then it can corrupt the temporary files Studio uses when processing your work. I think you have a couple of things to do:

    1. whitelist Studio with your Antivirus etc.
    2. Create a new project and pretranslate from your TM to get back to where you were.

    You could also try and open the SDLXLIFF in your project as a separate project. So treat it as though it is now the source file. If you created the project from a word file or some other type of default source file then you should still be able to save the target even from the SDLXLIFF.
