I think this is related to the Trados Compatibility module from SDL Trados Studio 2011. The update only takes place if it finds a specific registration key that was created only with the installation of SDL Trados Sudio 2011 SP2R. You'll probably have to uninstall the non-SDL Trados Studio 2011 SP2R version before running the installation of SDL Trados Studio 2017:

    1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2. Locate SDL Trados Studio 2011 – Remove Suite of products in the list of installed products.
    3. Right-click on the entry and choose Uninstall that opens the uninstall dialog of Studio 2011.
    4. After SDL Trados Studio 2011 is uninstalled, you can start installing SDL Trados Studio 2017.

The alternative to this might be to try and fool the Studio installer by updating the registration key with the workaround described in this article:

    Hope this helps.
