Using Studio 2017 on a corporate domain-based network PC

Hi, I'm a freelance translator who works on two different machines, one is mine and I have Studio 2017 with a regular freelance licence, the other machine belongs to my employer and is locked to a corporate domain-based network - from which I can't nor wish to disconnect. I have recently installed Studio 2017 on the latter machine and I'm now coming up to the end of the intital 30 days period of grace. I tried to switch my freelance licence to the second machine, only to find I would need a full Studio 2017 professional licence - price tag GBP 2K+ - to be able to carry on using it on a domain-based network PC. Buying a Studio professional licence is therefore out of the question, but would like to know if there's a cheaper solution that I could try...? My regular work involves spending lots of hours - up to 85 hours a week - at my workplace during which I can have long periods of little or no activity, so it would be great if I could make the most of that unproductive time while I only have access to the corporate machine. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello ,

Our SDL Studio software is available in two versions- Professional and Freelance.

Generally speaking, as freelancers will not require the same level of functionality required by a PM working for an LSP/Corporation, we are able to offer 'freelancers' a more restricted version, that reduces the standard price of the Pro version quite significantly making this more accessible.

One of these restrictions is, that freelance versions cannot be installed on a domain controlled environment (server) and are only for use on a PC within the home (W)LAN.
The PLUS version provides freelancers with the added flexibility of being able to install on two local machines but which are not connected by the way of a domain/server.

As your work PC is connected to the domain, the only option available would be to use a PRO version.
Maybe, you can ask your employer to get in contact with us and we can see how we can help you best.
