Can you run Studio 2017 and 2019 with network licenses?

Hello,

We have 2 network licenses for Trados Studio Professional. One translator is ready to upgrade to 2019 and the other doesn't want to upgrade until she completes her ongoing project. So, here are my questions:

1. Can you run 2017 with the Safenet License Server Manager v.2?

2. Can you upgrade seamlessly from 2017 to 2019 in the middle of ongoing projects?

Thank you,

Kumiko

  • Hello Kumiko,

When you perform an upgrade from SDL Trados Studio 2017 to SDL Trados Studio 2019, you need to take the following series of steps. Familiarize yourself with these before performing them.

    1. Close any running instances of SDL Trados Studio.
    2. Deactivate the existing commuter (network) licenses.
    3. Uninstall the current version (v.1.0) of SDL License Manager.
    4. Go to your SDL account, and then download and install the new version of the SDL License Manager (v.2.0).
    5. Re-activate only one instance of the 2017 commuter license.
    6. Proceed with the 2019 SDL Trados Studio license upgrade in your SDL account. In case you already purchased an upgrade license, you shall have the possibility to upgrade only one (available) license.
    7. Activate the SDL License Manager with the new 2019 commuter license.

By following the above steps you will have the possibility to connect one 2017 and one 2019 instance of SDL Trados Studio to the same SDL License Server Manager.

You should require any assistance from a support representative, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will gladly assist you!

  • Zoltan,

Thank you for your reply again.
I hate to keep asking you questions, but

    1. Once I return the 2017 license, I won't be able to use 2017 with the 2019 license. Correct?
    2. Can I open a 2017 project with 2019 and continue with translation/review?

    Thank you,
    Kumiko
