Problem with reinstallation of Studio 2017

Hi everyone!

Today I've updated Studio 2017 and then I've got an error message about Plug-Ins. I've tried to uninstall Trados and reinstall it. But now it seems Trados isn't fully uninstalled, because when I wan't to reinstall it, I get an error message, that there is still another version on this computer. But the only thing I have in the list of programmes is "SDL Trados 2017 SR1 - Remove suite of products" When I want to remove this, I get a similar error message, that there is another version of Trados detected and I have to uninstall it there. So I can't fully remove it and therefore I'm unable to reinstall it.

Can anybody help me? I have an urgent project to complete and I can't get Trados again.

Thank you in advance!

  • Hello ,

It would be helpful if you could provide the error messages that you are receiving.
However I think the best thing to do is completely reset Studio- you can do this via the following app-

    community.sdl.com/.../3212.sdl-freshstart

If you are still having issues, please let me know and we can set up a remote webex and I can help you get this resolved.

  • Error message during Trados Studio 2017 setup stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.' with an OK button.

    Hello Steven,

I've got a similar problem as Kathrin: The last incremental update package (N° ?) apparently crashed something, because Trados Studio 2017 (Freelance) wouldn't start up due to corrupted Plugin settings/paths.

I tried to reinstall first with the latest downloadable build (N° 6278), which throws an error that the installer cannot complete because "a higher version is already installed" (presumably the incremental update) - which must be uninstalled first.

So I tried to uninstall and got the same error that a higher version must be uninstalled first... which is impossible as there is no separate uninstaller for the incremental update.

I then went and deleted the usual directories (in Win 10's Programs (x86)\SDL\ folder as well as the relevant AppData folders - basically what the FreshStart utility does, only manually) and because that didn't help, I also ran a registry cleaner to kill any residual Reg.keys that might block the (un-/re-)installation. So far, to no avail.

I had hoped there was a -force switch on the regular installer or the "silent" installer (available via FTP) that would let it ignore previous installs, but that doesn't seem to exist either.

Any other ideas? Where else does the installer look for existing installations?

    Thanks for any pointers
    Christopher
