Unable to uninstall SDL Trados 2019 - suite of products - from my computer (MAC but using Windows Parallels)

Dear all,

Due to several problems I’ve had with my Trados instance lately (system crashes, target language not recognized, etc.), I decided to reinstall it. However, after uninstalling the app from my computer (it's a Parallels Windows environment on a MAC computer), it is still displayed in the system settings (however, not in the list of apps nor anywhere else on my computer - our IT guys couldn't locate any remaining fragments). When trying to uninstall it right from the settings, I get the weirdest of error messages, saying that INSTALLATION isn’t possible since there is an older version which needs to be uninstalled beforehand (s. screenshot).

Error message during Trados Studio uninstallation stating 'Setup has detected an older version of this product. Please uninstall that version first.'

Thank you for providing feedback and advice on this issue.

Best, Daniela

  • I had the same error message as the one above. It is now fixed thx to support.

But for those that might need to know:

This is a Microsoft Windows laptop, but the exact same message was appearing.

Originally, I had the product all installed and I was happy with it all. Then one day on opening it the icon was appearing in the tray, but there was no actual starting of the program. And for some reason I went to go about doing an uninstall and reinstall with a fresh one. Only to find myself stuck in no man's land, neither able to install or uninstall. And then a Google search brought me here.

I then deleted some of the folders as per various links from here, but that didn't work.

Support got me to go about installing and get to the point of installation where that message appears again (because the bits needed had been deleted already), then open up some modules in some cache, or some place, and finish installing manually by double clicking some .msi files (if I remember right).

Hope that helps someone. And Crystal Wang from support assisted me. Ta.
