If you upgrade then this is possible... but it will only last until you lose the ability to start up Studio 2017.  So if you return the licence... you'll never get it back.  If Studio 2017 requires a licence reset... you'll never get it back.

The only way to guarantee permanent access is to purchase an additional licence as 2019 and not upgrade.

OK, I understand. If SDL Studio 2017 gets lost, I will have to continue with SDL Studio 2019 only. Thank you for pointing this out.

Just clarifying that this is only the case in the scenario you pointed out.  On your other computer when you licence and run 2019 you will find that 2017 will still function because it will use the licence activation for 2019 without you having to do anything.

Probably less useful, but many people want to do this so I just wanted to make sure this was clear.

Thank you for this extra clarification. Having Studio on two devices provides extra safety in case the older device gets in trouble. Having two different versions on two devices for some time also gives me the opportunity to switch smoothly from one version to a newer one. And with new versions coming out frequently, I prefer to go forward. Thank you again for your help.
