License expired message - although it's supposed to be indefinite

Screenshot of Trados Studio Product Activation window showing an 'Active License: License Expired' message with options to access SDL Account or Purchase a license and an 'Activate' button.

Hi, so I got this message as above out of nowhere (I haven't even changed any settings or such), and I'm unable to use Trados, while I need to hand in an urgen big translation by tomorrow - please help.

  • Hello  I just checked you SDL account and it seems your license is available, so this means Studio is not using the license to be active (confusing, I know).

    Please follow these steps (earlier mentioned by Alina Aura) and then activate Studio using your license code, this will amend the mixup:

    (Make sure that Studio is closed while performing these changes)

    * Go this path: <C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\Data>
    - if you cannot find the ProgramData folder, please unhide your files and folders as shown in this article: gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

    * Rename the Studio.lic file (ex. old_Studio.lic)
    * Start Studio using the "Run as Administrator' option (right click on the Studio icon and select Run as Admin).

    I just want to make sure that your license is correctly activated and that you won't have to interrupt your work unexpectedly.

    Please let us know if you still encounter issues after applying the above steps.
