Studio 2019 does not start

Hi, I installed SR2 for Studio 19 and can no longer open Studio, I get this message "'Sdl.TranslationStudio.AlignmentEditor.IAlignmentEditorService' could not be started" I cannot even return my license to reinstall Studio 2029. Please help. Repairing the software is not an option that is offered.  Please help. Thanks. -- Diane

  • Can you provide the full error message?  The title you provided is a little generic and could point to a number of things.

Error dialog box in Trados Studio with a message instructing to click on the disk symbol and save the XML to desktop, then attach the XML to the forum post.

  • Thanks for getting back to me quickly, Paul. Sorry for asking an obvious question: Do I attach the error description by copying it? Inserting it?

  • Not so obvious!

Save the XML to your desktop and then attach to your reply like this:

Screenshot showing Trados Studio interface with a dialogue box for attaching files. A red arrow points to the 'Insert ImageVideo' option.

    Thank you for clarifying, Paul!

  • Thanks ... we have four KB articles on this but the details don't match any of them.  So, I'd recommend trying a bit of a catch all fix and if this doesn't help we can log a case for you.

You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it:

    https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/sdl-freshstart/876/

The app can also clear up more than this and it has interesting explanations of what the consequences are for each one so you could clean up more if you feel ok with it.

But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0

So the path would become this:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

  • Hi Paul, I tried renaming the file manually: same message keeps appearing. Then I tried the reset app: still get the same message. Where do I go from here? -- Dian

  • Hi Paul, The error info I sent you contains a lot of information about my computer. Is it possible to delete it? I do not seem to be able to do it from my end. Maybe I am needlessly worried. If so, please let me know. D.

  • I edited the file to remove anything you may be worried about... although I think this is unlikely to be a cause for concern anyway.  I left the error there though as support may use it.
