SDL Language Cloud for Trados Studio 2014

Beginning of 2020, SDL switched from Statistical MT to Neural MT. As a result I can not use SDL Language Cloud anymore with my Studio 2014.
In my opinion it is a breach of my license agreement as, when I made a purchase decision, SDL announced on SDL Language Cloud: “You receive 200,000 characters free of charge as a package for users of SDL Trados Studio 2014 or above...”.
Now I learned that for older versions like Trados 2015 or 2017, the access to NMT is done through the MT Cloud plugin, but the last version for which this was developed is Trados 2015.

In other words I do not have anymore a product I have paid for, and it goes without saying using SDL Language Cloud was one of the reasons I have decided to buy this product.

I understand SDL Trados Studio 2014 is not developed anymore, however I can not accept you have deteriorated its functionality.

In order to meet license obligation I expect SDL should either develop a plugin for Trados 2014 or upgrade my version to Trados 2015 free of charge.

Kind regards,

  • Hello @ ,

When you purchased Studio 2014 back in 2013, SDL provided Language Cloud users, with a completely free of charge allocation of characters, which did not form part of the license agreement.

You can continue to use Studio 2014 for as long as you wish, on a compatible system in accordance to the license agreement.

It is worth mentioning at this stage, that although there is a plugin available for 2015 users (or higher),

we no longer support Studio 2015/2017 and are unable to develop plugins, for these (or indeed older) versions of Studio.

We recommend users upgrade their Studio versions on a regular basis. This ensures for example, that the latests file types and even Windows Operating Systems are fully supported.

The easiest way to ensure that you have the latest version available, is through a Support contract, that offers you the following benefits-

    1) Unlimited technical support

    2) Free upgrades immediately upon release (you can choose when you wish to install the upgrades).
