Problem creating return package

I recently installed Trados Studio 2017 on a new computer. I am unable to create a return package, I receive the message (in French) that the process cannot access the files because they are in use by another process. They are not. I then receive another error message ' the reference of the subject is not defined.........". I would be most grateful for any help in sorting this out.

  • Hello ,

To be able to help you properly, please post the full error stack as this often contains essential information that helps us find the issue.

Error message popup in Trados Studio with instructions: 1) Click on the icon, 2) Save the XML file to your desktop, 3) Add file to the thread.

I note that you mention that you have installed Studio 2017 on a new machine which may suggest that the project is still loaded into the old machine.

Where do you save your projects? local or in the cloud?

If you still have access to the machine, please ensure you have removed the project from the previous installation, then open Studio (on the new machine) and try opening the package.

  • Hi Steven,

Many thanks for getting back to me. The first message I receive is "Warning - The process cannot access the files because they are being used by another process." I then receive the error message "Error - Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Trados is still installed on my old machine but has been deactivated. I cannot see what projects it contains without deactivating Trados on my new machine and reactivating it on my old machine, but I am fairly certain the project in question was not loaded on the old machine. I tried to create another return package on my new machine from another project which is definitely not on my old machine, but was unable to do so. I hope you can help.

    Thanks, Sue
