How can I download and licence the copy of Studio 2014 PLUS on the second computer?

Hello,

I have a copy of Studio 2014 freelance PLUS on one computer (desktop), and I still have to activate the other copy on my second computer, (a laptop).

What shall I download on the second computer, the laptop? A trial copy? A new Studio 2014 PLUS? What? I have no idea which one or what to do.

The tutorial and information shown on the site only talk about activating the product BUT don't mention anything about what to download on the laptop as a second copy of Studio 2014, all very very confusing and totally unclear.

Before activating the second copy no one says anything about what to do and what to download. I may be very stupid but I could not find any useful information. Sorry. The problem is not the activation of the second license on the second computer, which is explained clearly, BUT what to do BEFORE!!!

I still have my second licence of course visible on my account, I only used the first one to activate the copy I have on the desktop PC, but what is the correct sesquence of actions to be followed for the second copy I want on the laptop?

Thank you very much for your kind help.

  • Hi Giusseppe,

If I'm reading this correctly then I guess the answer should be straightforward for you to implement.  You basically do exactly the same as you did to get Studio installed on the desktop.

    1. Copy the installation file(s) or download again

    2. Run the installers

    3. Activate the licence

Is this what you needed or have I completely misunderstood your question?

  • Hi Paul,

thanks a lot, but on the page of possible downloads the confusion is more than complete, I'm  afraid :((

Can I copy the installation files on an USB key from the desktop to transfer them to the laptop? Then procede with the other actions of the licincing? Can that really work?

Or shall I download a copy of Studio 2014 PLUS as if I had to purchase it again, i.e. to put in the cart, but then not pay anything at all, or what?

    Thanks for your patience,

    Giuseppe

  • Hi Giusseppe,

Yes, copying the installation file onto a USB will really work.  It is the same file you would download from your account.  Please do not purchase again this is not necessary.

I am surprised you have a problem with which files to download though. There is surely only one SDL Trados Studio 2014 installer?  Perhaps you are not looking in the right place.  Have you gone to your MySDL account and logged it to see your available downloads and licenses?

  • Basically my question is: I don't know what to download on the laptop, which product, another copy again of Studio 2014 PLUS, the same one I already have on the desktop? A trial copy of Studio 2014 without the PLUS word? The page of the downloads is anything but clear.

All the info refers to buying or to free trial but which action to choose from the options then?

  • Hi Paul,

    thank you.

Yes, of course I can see all my licences on my page, BUT I think I need a copy of the tool installed on the new machine before clicking on the licence or the system will probably say that no copy of the product exists on the computer, does it make sense or am I missing something?

I'll try copying the installatin file, and keeping my fingers crossed.

    Best regards,

    Giuseppe

  • Hi Giussepe,

Hmnn... I think there may be a little more confusion here.  The product is actually activated through the product Activation dialog.  So you cannot activate it without installing it first.  You don't need to click on the license in your MySDL acount at all.

    Maybe review this video?

Also, look in your downloads section and not your licenses.  That's where you'll find the download to install.  But as I said, if you already have a copy of the installer it will be much faster to use that (as long as you got the installer from your MySDL account in the first place!)

  • Hello Paul,

after thinking and thinking again I reached the conclusion shown below.

The problem was completely ignored in all the information pages and videos provided, they were very misleading and caused all the confusion, and unfortunately made me bother you:

    1) one has to download a free trial copy again of STUDIO 2014 on the new machine, as you also mentioned somehow.

    2) when launching STUDIO, the license window will open (it will show the free license, which lasts for a month),

    3) Instead of waiting the end of the trial month of course one can insert the licence key which has been paid for ( the PLUS version had two keys: in my case I still have the second key, the first one was used for the copy I have on the desktop).

    4) And then everything should go smoothly for the copy on the laptop machine.

Obviously the free trial page contains STUDIO 2014 clearly downloadable (but the DOWNLOADS page DOES NOT, there STUDIO 2014 is NOT shown at all, as you can see from my screenshots sent before via e-mail, I could not insert the screenshots here!!!) and there should be no problems, apparently.

My only doubts refer to this: as the page wants e-mail and name again, I hope the system will not make a mess and will not prevent me from going on when it recognises me as the same customer who purchased and downloaded the copy on the desktop ... I hope this won't happen.

Is what I want to do correct?  Or am I wrong again?

Thank you for your patience once more.

    Best regards,

    Giuseppe
