reinstallation of trados 2011 on new pc

Hello,

I recently updated my pc to Windows10 and now would like to reinstall Trados 2011 on it.

When I try the installation process, I get this message:

An error occurred downloading the following resource:
http://downloadcentre.sdl.com/prerequisites/VCRedist2005SP1-KB2538242/vcredist_x86.exe

This happens when I try to donwload this component:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable SP1

Is there a way to solve this problem?

  • Was struggling with this ridiculous issue on a clean install of Windows 7 SP1 for several months, reading all forum posts and downloading all possible Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1, as well as gazillions of other C++ versions. Nothing worked. The same error over and over during the installation as described above. Turns out the Trados 2011 (which up to this moment in 2021 is the fastest and simplest Trados translation software, in my very humble opinion) does not want the user to install it using the default executive file. What it wants the user to do, is to go to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLTradosStudio2011SP2 (a folder it arbitrarily puts on the user's computer, without asking, even in case of an unsuccessful installation attempt) - and run the file ChainerHost.exe. It will then launch another type of installation wizard which will seemingly install two versions of the Visual C++ (none of which are the hated 2005 SP1), a Java version, and a slew ot other things, and finalize the installation successfully. What a piece of... interesting software. Still the best. Hope this helps.
