Specified cast is not valid - Error message in Trados 2021 SR! 16.1.3.4096 - Memories View

I have recently updated the software and some of the memories required being updated.  In the Memories View, once I select a memory to have it updated, the error "Specified cast is not valid"  appears and then, the software just crashes.

I have already read previous posts and tried the four suggested workarounds with no success.  So, following the intructions, I require to log a case.

Can anybody help, please?

  • It's more helpful if you actually tell us what you have tried.  Have you tried a full reset which is what the support team will probably do first?

You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it:

    appstore.sdl.com/.../

But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

So the path would become this:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

  • Dear Paul, thank you for your kind answer.

I have already done the following:

    1) Repaired the software unsucessfully.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the software unsuccessfully.

    2) Renamed the files

    • BaseSettings.xml
    • Plugincache.xml
    • UserSettings.xml

    e) Renamed the folders

    1. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
    2. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
    3. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents - rename the Studio [version] folder to Studio [version]_old

The only thing I did not do because I just did not figure out what to do was using the SDL Freshstart app

The point is that everytime I try to update a memory which seems to be corrupted, the program crashes. Disappointed
