It's more helpful if you actually tell us what you have tried.  Have you tried a full reset which is what the support team will probably do first?

You could use this app for the reset and this will also explain what you will lose by carrying out a reset before you do it:

appstore.sdl.com/.../

But if you'd rather do this manually then rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

So the path would become this:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

www.howtogeek.com/.../

I have already done the following:

1) Repaired the software unsucessfully.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the software unsuccessfully.

2) Renamed the files 

• BaseSettings.xml
• Plugincache.xml
• UserSettings.xml

e) Renamed the folders

1. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
2. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\SDL - rename the SDL Trados Studio and ProjectApi folder
3. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents - rename the Studio [version] folder to Studio [version]_old

The only thing I did not do because I just did not figure out what to do was using the SDL Freshstart app

The point is that everytime I try to update a memory which seems to be corrupted, the program crashes.

You mention that you believe the TM is corrupted, you can try to use the SDLTM Repair app -

Another option might be to export the TM to TMX and then import the TMX into a NEW TM.

Thanks a lot for the your kind answer.  At this point I tried another solution provided by the Support team.  I deleted the TranslationMemoryRepository.xml file and restarted Studio.  This made me realised that the problem is specific with one TM, not all of them.

I downloaded the SDLTM Repair app.  The TM is actually damaged and apparently was repaired; however, I cannot use it, update it or export its contents to a new TM.  If I only click on it, Studio stops working after showing the same error "Specified cast is invalid'.

Unfortunately, this sounds as though the issue is with the specific TM that is corrupted and cannot be repaired.

Although SDL TMs are robust, sometimes they can corrupt and cannot be repaired.

We suggest that you backup your resources on a regular basis and to help you do that, there is even a free app available
