TRADOS 2021 is not as good as old TRADOS STUDIO 2017!!

I bought my TRADOS STUDIO 2017 about 4 years ago. I was using TRADOS for my translation into Burmese language. Because of the font problems, at that time, in TRADOS we had two options for Burmese language – Burmese – for non-Unicode fonts and Burmese (Myanmar) for Unicode fonts. When I need to work with Unicode font, I have to choose the option - Burmese (Myanmar) and for non-Unicode fonts - Burmese.

Some weeks ago, I upgraded to TRADOS 2021 and from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I was amazed to find out that TRADOS 2021 offers only one choice for Burmese – Burmese (Myanmar)! I got an Order where I was asked to use Unicode font. I found some unusual problems typing the Unicode font but somehow, I finished that job.

Then I decided to try a small test using Zawgyi-one. I had spent already more than ten days, experimenting a lot of possible solutions but up to now I could not type my Zawgyi-one text into TRADOS 2021 Editor! In my computer I am using Office 365. The strange situation is – I can easily type any text using Zawgyi-one in Office 365 but TRADOS 2021 will not allow me to type the same text, in the same way, into it Editor!! I assume that what I can type into Office, I should be able to do easily in the Editor of TRADOS 2021. But all my Zawgyi-one text were displayed corrupted.

Then I tried to reinstall TRADOS STUDIO 2017 and tried to type the same text. Again, TRADOS 2017 Editor was displaying everything corrupted.

At last, I decided to install Windows 7 on one disk and try TRADOS STUDIO 2017 there. The first attempt was again unsuccessful. After that, I decided to find the old version of TRADOS STUDIO 2017. When I installed it in my Windows 7, I found that I can choose Burmese (not Burmese (Myanmar)). I was able to type my Zawgyi-one text as I could do 3 years ago without any problem!!

So, for me and for my Burmese language, it is quite clear that TRADOS 2021 missed something what it had in the old version of TRADOS STUDIO 2017. The fact that TRADOS 2021’s Editor does not allow me to type a text in the same way I can type easily in Office 365 proves that something went wrong for users of Burmese language. Though Unicode is now the official font for Myanmar, about 95% of people in Myanmar are still using Zawgyi-one as they did for last 20 years. And, about half of Orders coming to me are for the old font Zawgyi-one.

After all these experiments with TRADOS STUDIO 2017, TRADOS 2021 in Windows 10 and Windows 7, I know that for my Clients I must use only the old version of TRADOS STUDIO 2017 in Windows 7. Because of this reason I am forced to surrender back TRADOS 2021, and start a procedure to refund for my last upgrade.

    This is incorrect.

    The point here is Windows 7.  Trados Studio uses the languages available in Windows.

    But, I found that even in the case when I installed TRADOS 2021 in Windows 7, I was unable to type my Burmese text in my usual ways. After that I found that when I installed old TRADOS 2017 in Windows 7, still I was unable to type my Burmese text in my usual ways! Only when I somehow found the very first version of TRADOS 2017 and installed it in Windows 7, I was able to first of all she the option to choose Burmese and Burmese (Myanmar). And in this case everything returned to the situation when I was able to type all of my Burmese fonts as I am used to do!!

    So, please note that TRADOS 2021 and TRADOS 2017 with last upgrades were unusable for mentioned Burmese keyboards and fonts. And, one more important point - both in Windows 7 and Windows 10 there is no problem when I want to use any mentioned keyboards and fonts in MS Office! Only the behavior of TRADOS Editor is strange for mentioned Burmese keyboards and fonts.
