Installing and activating Studio 2021 and Studio 2019 side by side on 2 computers with Freelance Plus

Hi,

I have a Freelance Plus license. I wanted to reactivate SDL Studio 2019 on my 2nd computer. I know I need to install SDL Studio 2021 and 2019 side by side, which I did. I managed to activate Studio 2021, but Studio 2019 gives me an error: "Activation failed. Invalid Product Key. Make sure that the Product Key belongs to the intended product or product version."
As a side note, Studio 2021 and 2019 are already activated on my main computer.

What should I do?

  • Hello Daniel,

Can you please advise if you have purchased the Upgrade from SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance Plus to SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus, or you have purchased a separate new license for SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus?

If you have purchased the upgrade, please be aware that in this process you are basically exchanging the old license (the one for SDL Trados Studio 2019 Freelance Plus) with the new one (SDL Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus), so in the end, you will only have 1 license, not 2 (SDL Trados Studio Freelance Plus is still 1 license with 2 available activations). In this case, the license for Studio 2019 no longer exists. Also, the license code for Studio 2021 can only work on this version, not on Studio 2019.

  • Hi Adrian,

This is indeed an upgrade from SDL Studio 2019 Freelance Plus to SDL Studio 2021 Freelance Plus. As a matter of fact, on my main PC, I do use both versions side by side, though I can't remember how I proceeded to keep Studio 2019 when I got my 2021 licence... Some clients still require me to use 2019 for compatibility issues with their systems, so I need to keep it, and I also needed it in my laptop (which I use only from time to time, when I need to work out of the office). Is there any way to do the same in my laptop? After all, even if this is an upgrade, I did pay those licences...

    Best Regards,

    Daniel
