Future migration to SDL Trados Studio 2015 Freelance Plus

Hi to all at SDL,

Just a simple question, to be sure…

Granted that I have subscribed the SDL Trados Studio 2015 Freelance Plus pre-launch offer, will Studio 2015 Freelance Plus coexist with Studio 2014 Freelance Plus (at least for the initial migrating period, say, e.g. 30 days)?

To be more clear: as I remember, and if I am not in error, when I upgraded from Studio Freelance Plus 2011 to Studio Freelance Plus 2014, the activation of the new (2014) licence code cancelled the SDL 2011 one, and the previous version (2011) was not more available/usable.

Will this also happen when upgrading to the forthcoming Studio 2015 Freelance Plus? Or will there be a chance to maintain both version (even for a limited period) on the same machines (I mean Desktop PC and Laptop PC)?

This will reassure me (or us) in case of possible (even if not desirable) problems when managing files already in progress when installing Studio Freelance Plus 2015.

Moreover, will external applications/plugins/file filters downloaded from Open Exchange or settings for Studio 2014 work (migrate) in Studio 2015?

Thank you.

Claudio

  • Hi Claudio

When upgrading to Studio 2014 from 2011, the process was to simply deactivate Studio 2011 and install Studio 2014 ion the same machine. The new Studio 2014 activation code activated both Studio 2014 and 2011 (on the same machine).

Of course as you are ‘upgrading’ from one version to another, rather than purchasing a new license, it is common practice to relinquish the previous version.

With regards to the OpenExchange Apps, the external developers, will need to test their apps to see if they will be compatible with Studio 2015. We will of course update the OpenExchange web pages once the developers have confirmed compatibility.
