switching from a professional Trados license to a Network license

Hello,

I have a Trados Studio 2021 license installed on my PC and in December I purchased a Trados Network license. In the meantime, I purchased a new PC and created a VPN in which the old PC and the new one share their data.

I need to install  the Network license but when I try to download the upgrade available in my Trados account the following error message appears: "In order to process this upgrade, please return any in use activations".

Could you kind help me to understand what it means and what I shall do?

Moreover, I am a bit confused about the downloading of the upgrade:

- shall I download the license on the PC on which the previous professional version is installed or this is not required?

- on the contrary, shall I download the license on the new PC where no Trados is installed?

- shall I move the previous professional version in the VPN shared folder before downloading the network version or this is not required?

I thank you for your precious support.

Best regards,

Serena Valentino

  • Hello

"In order to process this upgrade, please return any in use activations" - This means that you need to deactivate your Professional license from Studio > Help > Product Activation in order to be able to process the upgrade to the Network license. The upgrade can be processed as described in this article: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0039975

Once the upgrade is processed and the Network license is available in your RWS account, here are the steps you need to follow to activate it:

    1. Install Trados License Manager (if the computers are connected to each other through VPN you can install it on any one of them - your choice).

    2. Activate the Network license in License Manager: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0039977

    3. Connect / Activate Studio to the Network license: Open Studio > click on Activate > Alternative activation options > Use a license server > type the name of the computer where you installed License Manager> click "Connect".

    4. The Network license allows you to use Studio alternatively on both computers. When you close Studio on one computer you can use it on the other one following the same steps from "3".

Note: The Network license has no influence / impact on your shared resources, it simply allow you to use Studio on multiple interconnected computers, one at a time.

    Thank you,

    Sorin
