"The specified project location folder already contains some files. Please specify an empty or non-existing folder."

Hi Community,

Some searching has confirmed that the above subject has already been addressed a few times. As far as I can see, the "solution" is to disinstall one version and install a previous one. However, the thread I encountered is 11 months old so maybe the bug has been sorted meanwhile?

Whether it has or not, my issue meanwhile is that I don't know which version of 2021 I have? This is how my license looks:

xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Right or wrong version? What do I need to do?

The title error message used to pop up now and then. Lately it pops up ALL THE TIME and I am going gray over here Disappointed

Thanks in advance!

  • You can find the version of your Studio by going to "Help -  About Trados Studio":
About Trados Studio dialog box showing Trados Studio 2021 SR2 - 16.2.10.9305 version information and copyright notice.

The error message you get has nothing to do with the installation, it pops up when you create a project or open a project package and select a path for your project folder that already contains some files. Note that whenever you create a project, the folder for this project must be a new empty folder (as the error message clearly says!).

In case this message pops up already when you open Studio, I suggest you delete your list of projects by going to 'Documents - Studio 2021 - Projects" and rename or delete the file 'projects.xml'. After you restart Studio, the project list should be empty, and the error should not come up anymore.
