I`ve checked your account and currently you have a Trados Studio 2021 Professional license. The Freelance Plus license was removed from your account when you upgraded to the Professional license, hence the error message when trying to deactivate. If you didn`t deactivate the Freelance license prior to the upgrade it can still be used on that computer but it can`t be deactivated and reactivated on another computer. If you simply want to deactivate it from there and activate another license you can follow the below steps:

1. Close Studio.
2. Go to: C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16\Data
3. Rename the file Studio.lic, e.g. to Studio_old.lic.
4. Reactivate Studio with another license. 

Note: If you can't find the path above, open Windows File Explorer, click on View and check "Hidden Items" checkbox.

Thanks for your reply.

We didnt deactivate either licences as we didnt think there were going to be removed. We need to deactivate at least one of them and activate it in another computer. How should we proceed?

Unfortunately this is not possible. The 2021 license can be used only on the computers where it remained activated before processing the upgrade.

If it helps, you can use Studio 2021 on the same computer where Studio 2022 is activated, as described in this article: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0032841

I am afraid there must be a mistake as I only have the Studio 2021 Professional Licence. I don't have the 2022 version. And I have another question. Why did you remove the Studio Freelance Plus version when I purchased the Studio 2021 Professional Licence? I paid fully for both versions of the software.

When you purchase an upgrade for a product, the original product is replaced by the new one and you lose the right to use the old product anymore. This is normal procedure for an upgrade and does not only apply to Trados but is customary practice in the software industry. This is clearly stated in the conditions.

I apologize but I do not understand. I paid first for the Studio Freelance Plus version and then I paid the full prize for the Professional version. How could this be considered an upgrade? These products are sold as two different software and when you purchase them you dont obtain any discount for being an upgrade but you pay the full prize.

My comment was related to an upgrade because I understood from Sorin's reply that you had upgraded your Freelance version to a Professional one. If that was not the case and you purchased the full product, then my comment does not apply.

Just to elaborate a little on this because you seemed confused about what you purchased and why this would be a problem.  You purchased this:

Upgrade from Trados Studio 2021 Freelance Plus to Trados Studio 2021 Professional

When you purchase an upgrade you are essentially trading in your old licence and replacing it with a new one.  If you don't return your old licence then any computer still running it will continue to work, but as soon as you have a problem or try to move to a new computer you won't be able to as it will now be unavailable to you.

You paid the full price for an upgrade.  Not the full price for a new licence.  A new Professional licence has a list price of around €2695.00.
