Studio 2014 deleted itself

Hello,

I am in desperate need for help (this is setup related, even if it doesn't appear to be at the moment).

I've been using Studio 2014 on a PC since last November. Yesterday, I closed it, shut down the computer and pulled the wrong plug and unplugged the PC before it was shut down. It started without an error message this morning.

However, when I start Trados now, I get the setup assistant. All the files I have worked on in the past or am currently working on are still in their respective folders, but I can't use Trados anymore.

I don't dare to go through setup again as I fear I will loose months worth of work that is not completed.

The only other thing right now is that I had to move the computer to a place with bad internet connection (am using internet connection via the sockets), but I am pretty sure Trados doesn't need to be online to work.

THE QUESTIONS:

What happens when I set up again. Will all my work be lost for good? Will the files currently saved in the folders of each project be deleted (as many software deletes the "old" version when you install a "new" version and seem to delete related files as well)

Or can I setup, search for the files I have already worked on and they will still be the way I left them yesterday?

How could this happen in the first place? What do I need to avoid in the future?

I look forward to hearing a solution - am slightly freaking out here, deadlines are looming.

Thank you!

Nicola

You can setup again and nothing will be lost. Your project files are all saved separately to the installation. The only thing you might have to do is use the Open Project command (or double click it in windows explorer) and select the SDLPROJ file to add your Project back in your Projects View again. But this may not be necessary... just don't worry if you see your projects are not there at first.

    Should be.

Never pull the plug on your computer when it's still on!

  • Dear Paul,

thank you for your quick reply. I feel very relieved and I will go through the set up assistant again (bit later today) and hope it'll all be fine.

In my defense, I had hit "shut down", the programme was already closed and the computer started without an error message this morning. All other programmes are working fine...

    Thanks again.
